Lou’s 2014 Adventure

June 1, 2014

We are getting ready to leave June 14th. This is the cross-country trip Bob and I were supposed to make over 30 years ago on a motorcycle. Life doesn’t always cooperate with the plans we make, so instead, we bought a house, got married, started a business, had a few kids, I went back to graduate school, started another career, helped financed some college degrees and a wedding, and added a few grand-kids. During that time, Bob has gone cross-country three times, survived open-heart surgery and a killer bacterial infection that put him out of commission for a few months, while I survived the stress of worrying and caring for him in recovery.

So, here we are. I told him in January 2014 it is my turn to go cross-country. It won’t be on the back of his bike like we originally planned because in 1990 I got my own bike, a 450 Honda Rebel. A few years later I moved up to a 650 Honda Shadow and a few years after that the 1998 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low-rider than I own now. I just got a new gel seat, a riser for the handlebars, a front to back 10,000 mile check, adjustments to the floorboards and shifter and two new tires. Thanks to Shadley Brothers for the work done. It’s comfortable and should work for this three-week trip.

Bob will be riding his 1989 Harley-Davidson Custom Heritage. This is the bike that has gone cross-country three times!
